Georgia Local Government Salary Exchange
A current project of Accounting Advisors and the City of Marietta aggregates payroll data for a number of local governments. This information is transformed into a private web site that is destined to eliminate paper-based salary surveys among Georgia local governments. The web site is generated entirely from an Excel macro, from Excel spreadsheets submitted by each local government. Features of the web site include:
- A separate page for each job title, listing all of the cities that have employees holding that job title, along with
relevant salary data and length of service. Each position listed is hyperlinked to a separate page for each city.
- Another page for each city, listing all of their job titles, per the previous point.
- A directory page, that provides an alphabetical list of jobs, with each title being a hyperlink to that position's page,
along with the average salary information for that job title
- A job family page, which is a different spin on the directory page, basically grouping related job titles together.
This again hyperlinks to the job position pages.
Going forward, the participating local governments will e-mail a spreadsheet to the site administrator on a periodic basis. The administrator will run
a macro that combines all of the cities' data into a single worksheet, then the macro writes out the various pages listed above.
The local governments have password access to the web site. The information contained therein has historically been collected in the form of annual, paper-based surveys. Now, the individual local government spreadsheets are linked to exports from their respective
payroll systems, so no one has to do anything more than open the spreadsheet and e-mail it.
