Do It
Yourself Or Hire A Web Designer?
|
One of the first questions that you'll need to answer is whether you will build the web site yourself or hire someone else to do it for you. We encourage our clients to at least get a basic understanding of HTML. If you understand how the web site works, you will have more of a sense of ownership over it. There's nothing worse than seeing a spelling or factual error on your site and not knowing how to change it. There are many resources on the web to help you learn about HTML and web design. We've compiled a list of some of the best web design resources to help you find your way. If you hire a person or a company to build your web site for you, there are still a lot of things that you'll need to do to retain control over the web site. While a web design firm can create wonderful web sites, they may not have a good grasp on your company or industry. They will only be able to display prettily the content that you provide. Therefore, it is a good idea to assign the job of creating the web site to one of your own employees. That employee can be the liason between the web designer and your company. A web site is only effective if people want to come to see what's on it. This means that you have to keep the content on your web site fresh. Simply sticking up marketing brochures and forgetting about your site is not going to get you any new business, nor is it going to make your expenditure worthwhile. If your business is in the news, it's a good idea to have press releases or references posted on the web site. Tell your customers about specials that you are running or new products that you are developing. Encourage them to come back!
